Ruth Morley

Leadlight Artist

Ruth in her shop

Leadlight, sometimes referred to as Stained Glass, is the art of cutting pieces of coloured glass and assembling each piece together with lead to form a picture, scene or design

Ruth has been a professional glass artist since 1998

Inspired by the visual impact of stained glass windows displayed in churches, Ruth's interest in leadlighting began with a course in Western Australia. From a rewarding hobby making suncatchers and selling them at markets, Ruth built up her skill and confidence to master leadlight techniques.

Born in Tasmania, Ruth lives at Lauderdale on the eastern shore from Hobart. Ruth operates her business, Morley Leadlights, from her glass studio at home. Ruth's main work is making leadlight panels for windows, doors and cabinets using her own designs as well as traditional ones.

Customed designs are commissioned and Ruth works closely with the customer through the design stage and choosing glass for the project.

Specialising in mirrors and lampshades, Ruth has a variety displayed in her studio for sale.

Ruth teaches leadlight as part of the Adult Education program. Her students have made some beautiful pieces and remarkable achievements with her guidance. Workshops are conducted at the studio for beginners and experienced.
